Simplify Cube Root Calculator
Simplify cube roots by pulling perfect-cube factors outside the radical, including integers, decimals, fractions, and negative values.
Last Updated: May 2026
Use an integer, finite decimal, or fraction.
Whole number from 0 to 12.
Simplified form
3 cuberoot(2)
Outside factor
3
Inside factor
2
Decimal approximation
3.779763
| Item | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Original cube root | cuberoot(54) | Parsed as a integer. |
| Exact radicand | 54 | Finite decimals and fractions are reduced before simplification. |
| Outside factor | 3 | Perfect-cube factors pulled outside the cube root. |
| Inside factor | 2 | Remaining cube-free radicand after simplification. |
| Simplified form | 3 cuberoot(2) | Exact simplified cube-root form. |
| Decimal approximation | 3.779763 | Rounded to 6 decimal places. |
Cube Factor Steps
| Step | Factorization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Numerator cube factor | 54 = 27 x 2 | 3 comes outside because 3^3 = 27. |
| Denominator cube factor | 1 = 1 x 1 | 1 comes outside the denominator. |
| Sign rule | Nonnegative radicand | + sign stays outside because cube roots preserve sign. |
Factors such as 8, 27, 64, and 125 can be pulled outside as 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Numerator and denominator are simplified separately, then combined into one exact form.
Negative radicands are allowed because real cube roots preserve the negative sign.
Real Cube Root Notice
This calculator simplifies real cube roots. It does not list the additional complex cube roots of nonzero values.

How to Use the Simplify Cube Root Calculator
Enter the radicand inside the cube root. You can use an integer, finite decimal, or fraction such as 54, -250, 15.625, or 128/27.
Read the simplified radical form first, then review the outside factor, inside factor, cube-factor steps, and decimal approximation.
Step 1: Enter the radicand
Use the number inside cuberoot(x), such as 20, 54, 216, -250, or 128/27.
Step 2: Set decimal precision
Choose 0 to 12 decimal places for the approximation.
Step 3: Check the outside factor
This is what comes out of the cube root after perfect-cube factors are removed.
Step 4: Review the inside factor
This is the cube-free value that remains under the cube root.
How This Simplify Cube Root Calculator Works
The calculator converts finite decimals and fractions into exact rational values. It then searches the numerator and denominator for perfect-cube factors.
The cube root of each perfect-cube factor is moved outside the radical. Any remaining cube-free factor stays inside the cube root.
Negative radicands are handled in the real-number system, so the negative sign is carried outside the cube root.

Simplifying Rules
| Rule | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect-cube factor | cuberoot(54) = cuberoot(27 x 2) | Find the largest cube factor. |
| Pull outside | cuberoot(27 x 2) = 3 cuberoot(2) | Because cuberoot(27) = 3. |
| Already simplified | cuberoot(7) | No cube factor larger than 1 remains. |
| Perfect cube | cuberoot(216) = 6 | The inside factor becomes 1. |
| Negative radicand | cuberoot(-250) = -5 cuberoot(2) | The negative sign stays outside. |
| Fraction radicand | cuberoot(128/27) = 2/3 cuberoot(16) | Simplify numerator and denominator separately. |
Cube Root Examples
| Radicand | Simplified Form | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 2 cuberoot(5) | Pulls out cuberoot(8). |
| 54 | 3 cuberoot(2) | Pulls out cuberoot(27). |
| 216 | 6 | Perfect cube. |
| -250 | -5 cuberoot(2) | Negative non-perfect cube. |
| 128/27 | 2/3 cuberoot(16) | Fraction simplification. |
Why Simplified Form Helps
Simplified radical form keeps the answer exact. It is usually better for algebra than a rounded decimal because it preserves the full cube-root value without approximation.
